About the Division

Permit Services acts as a point of contact for applicants, guiding them through the permit application process, answering questions, providing information, and assisting with any required documentation. It may also offer additional services such as fee collection, recordkeeping, and permit tracking to monitor the progress of applications and ensure that construction, development, and other activities comply with relevant laws, codes, and regulations.

Automated Solar Permit Now Available Through SolarAPP+

Contractors specializing in solar installations may now apply for the City's newly launched Automated Solar Permit through SolarAPP+ (opens in new window). This fully automated online platform is designed to streamline and expedite the permitting process for new residential rooftop solar and energy storage systems. By leveraging SolarAPP+, contractors can efficiently secure an Automated Solar Permit for systems that comply with all applicable codes and standards.

The Automated Solar Permit application is available exclusively to contractors registered with SolarAPP+ and applies to residential roof-mounted solar photovoltaic installations, with or without energy storage systems. Contractors also have the option to include a main electrical service upgrade as part of their Automated Solar Permit application.

For a complete list of eligible systems, please refer to the SolarAPP+ Eligibility Checklist (opens in new window). Only systems listed in these checklists are eligible for processing through SolarAPP+ under the Automated Solar Permit program.

Steps for Obtaining an Automated Solar Permit

Step 1: Register and Log Into SolarAPP+

Step 2: Submit Project in SolarAPP+

  • Submit your project through SolarAPP+.
  • Pay the processing fee charged by SolarAPP+.
  • Download the approval documents. You will need to upload them into the City's online permitting portal, eTRAKiT, when applying for your permit.

Step 3: Apply for Permit in eTRAKiT
